On Wednesday, May 12, LEARN submitted testimony to the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies (LHHS) regarding Fiscal Year (FY) 2023 funding for the Institute of Educational Sciences (IES), the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) and the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH). In this testimony, LEARN advocated for increases in Fiscal Year 2023 funding for these key agencies which support critical education research aimed at advancing scientific understanding of learning and development. Throughout, LEARN emphasized the importance of supporting education research as the nation works to recover from the educational challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. 

Specific funding requests in the letters include:

For IES Overall: $815 million

For Research and Dissemination (RD&D): $225 million

For the National Center for Special Education Research (NCSER): $70 million

For the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD): $2.02 billion

For the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH): $2..57 billion
