On Thursday, May 26, LEARN submitted testimony to the House Subcommittee on Labor, Health & Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies (LHHS) regarding Federal investment for key agencies and programs supporting education research, including the Institute of Educational Sciences (IES), the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) and the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH). In his testimony, LEARN Chair Rick Ginsberg of the University of Kansas expressed his appreciation for the increased funding for IES and NIH in the Fiscal Year (FY) 2022 budget and throughout emphasized how additional investments in FY 2023 will lead to improved experiences and outcomes for schools, teachers and students.
Specific funding requests in the letters include:
For IES Overall: $815 million
For Research and Dissemination (RD&D): $225 million
For the National Center for Special Education Research (NCSER): $70 million
For the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD): $2.02 billion
For the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH): $2.57 billion
