On Wednesday, March 26, the LEARN Coalition submitted a letter to the Chairs and Ranking Members of the U.S. House and Senate Appropriations Committee’s Labor, Health and Human Services, Education Subcommittees, urging increased funding for the Institute of Education Sciences (IES), the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD), the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), and the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The letter highlights significant challenges stemming from recent administrative actions—including the cancellation of grant competitions at NCER and NCSER, reductions in force (RIFs), and a proposed 15% cap on indirect costs at NIH—that are threatening critical research efforts and progress in these fields.
